Testimonial Letters from Clients

American Astrophilately
“As a first time author I approached Nancy at Star Print Brokers with a mess. Instead of a tight electronic package ready to print there were chapters and loose pages, a disjointed format (if you could call it that), and no conception of the book business.
After all, I was an expert on exhibiting space event envelopes at stamp shows, not an author, editor, graphic artist, proofer, or print broker. Fortunately, Nancy and her staff are. They revamped the layout moving me from single to dual column text, deftly converted the project to Adobe InDesign, and repeatedly proofed the job.
Hand-holding is one of their many specialties. Not only did she bring my job in on-budget and on-time but accomplished this while we communicated from my deployment in Afghanistan. She sent proofs to me in Germany and had the finished product on my door on my return to the States. There were a dozen things that can go terribly wrong in a project like this but I knew everything assigned to her was safe.
Since American Astrophilately was released last year it has sold 750 copies to collectors in 17 nations. It is available at NASA space centers and philatelic dealers in Berlin, Rome and Sydney. It was awarded a Gold Medal for Literature from the American Philatelic Society and has been nominated for the 2010 Eugene M. Emme Award presented annually to the book that best promotes public understanding of space history. I owe a large measure of the book’s success to Nancy and her team at Star Print Brokers.
Nancy recently wrote me, in part, ‘I feel that every book that goes out our door is our baby and I am more partial to the books where we have done some of the design work. Shhhh — don’t tell the other books!
Believe me, this is the firm you want delivering your baby.”

Crossings On the Ferries of Puget Sound
“For anyone who is considering a book publishing project, I recommend Ed and Nancy Starkman without reservations.
Before asking Star Print Brokers to orchestrate the printing of Crossings, I contacted other potential printing firms. Star’s prices were very competitive, but other considerations contributing to my decision to go with Star turned out to be even more important. Star handled each step of the production process on time, as promised, without delays, and with courtesy and professionalism.
Crossings is a sizeable book, with 304 pages and more than 385 images. The end result has received high praise from booksellers and customers, many of whom have commented about the evident quality of the printing and photo reproduction. A common question is, “Where did you get such fine printing?” The answer is that Star placed the book with an appropriate printer and did what was necessary to ensure the finished book would be as good as it is.
Early on, Nancy Starkman provided two suggestions about the design that were both wise and correct. From that point on, Ed Starkman ushered the book through production with diligence and careful attention to detail. After a binding problem arose, he negotiated a reasonable resolution. As a team, Nancy and Ed would be hard to equal.
It is quite likely that I was a challenging customer. During a career in photojournalism and publications, I had designed and overseen the production of many magazines and other printed documents, but never a book, and I was very concerned about and involved in the details of production. Ed endured that with patience, and also provided helpful answers when I had questions.
I would, without hesitation, ask Star to handle any future project.”
