Printed Covers for this Cover Wrap.
Printed covers are also known as printed cover wraps. Covers that print glue onto the boards of a hardcover, hard case book. The cover will print on paper. The paper then glues to the boards. An extra margin will wrap over the boards and glue down to the inside front cover and inside back cover.
The endpapers glue down to cover this extra margin. Printed covers are not a loose dust jacket. You can see in the image, a book showing an example of printed covers. You can see the hinge of the book, next to the spine. That tells you there is no dust jacket on the book.
Printed covers are the most economical option for a hardcover book
You don’t need a dust jacket if you have cover that is printed. However, a dust jacket is a nice addition. We never pressure our clients or try to “up sell”. We find opinion is fairly evenly split on whether dust jackets are necessary. It is really the author’s personal decision.
After you have agreed to print your book with Star Print Brokers, we can provide you or your designer with a template for the printed cover. We also provide templates for standard and French fold dust jackets, as well as French flaps soft cover books. We supply the measurements in millimeters for the covers, spine, and extra margin for printing and binding.
Printed Covers may or may not have Dust Jackets.
The dust jacket and flaps often contain promotional information about the book and the author. Typically, one flap has a summary and the other flap has a short biography. If authors do not want a dust jacket, the summary and biography can easily fit on the back cover of a process color book cover wrap.
If you open a any hardcover book binding, you will see endpapers glued to the inside front and inside back cover of the book. The endpaper on a book printing on press is twice the width of a single text page. The ends are not part of the text block. It is interesting to note page versus case measurements. It the text page size in 8.5″ x 11″, the hard case of the book will be a little larger. This can vary slightly depending on the bindery’s standards.
