Star assembles small signatures or booklets together to create a book with a soft cover. Then we glue or sew the block together. Next, we affix the cover. The binding method usually depends on the page count and the genre.
If the text block is thick because of the number of pages or thickness of the paper, we may sew the text block together. This is known as Smyth sewn. It costs a little more, but is necessary for a book with a substantial page count. A soft cover, full color, large page count book will need Smyth sewn signatures. A low page count black and white book on an offset or wood free stock can simply be perfect bound.
