A Tip-on Image, is seen here as the sailboat image on the Book’s Cover Wrap.
A tip-on or tip on image is essentially an image that has printing and a permanent adhesive backing. A gloss or satin UV coating will print on the sticker to give it a custom look. The book above has a cloth cover wrap with a UV coated adhesive sticker with printing. This gives it a high gloss finish. It is different from the book’s cloth cover wrap or paper cover wrap with printing. Don’t confuse a cover wrap with a dust jacket.
What you can’t see in the photo is the foil stamping. Some cloth has a rough texture, or heavier weave than other cloths. To prepare a surface area so it will accept the sticker, we heat stamp the cloth in the tip on area.
We place the tip-on by hand. Yes, by hand!
The tip-on sticker can be almost any shape. We tip on by hand.
The area where the sticker is put, can be an irregular shape, square, or rectangle. Anytime we are making a blind stamp, foil stamp, or area for stickers, we make a metal die to prepare the area. The area for the sticker will burnish, so that it creates a recess for the image’s placement. In the photo above, you will see where a gold foil stamp on the cover of this book. The cover of My Yacht Designs is cloth.
A tip on image can be put on a book slip case too.
This is just one of a number of options that Star Print Brokers offers. Options like this cannot be found with print on-demand services. We provide many customizations. Just ask us!
