Search self publishing websites and most of the time you find print-on-demand sites. They often have “packages.” They might also print a few books at a time. Some offer short run printing. The packages include things like editing and proofing, marketing, and more. Most often they are going directly to just one or two companies that offer POD. You might see a list of self-publishing websites, but most are going to self-publish with one of just a few vendors.

We offer many more choices than self-publishing service providers. You will never see block lettering on the spine of one of our books! In fact, there are too many choices to summarize here. Self-publishing websites versus Star Print Brokers and cost per copy.
We win! We always do, if the book specifications are the same, and delivery is included. Authors win too, because they make more profit with a lower unit cost. Because we print on press, we have a lower cost per book than POD suppliers. There is a catch though. Because we print on press, and ship from overseas, we have a minimum of 1,000 hardcover books or 2,000 soft cover books.
Would you rather have Star Print Brokers print 1,000 high-quality books at a lower unit cost, or 500 ‘iffy’ books at a higher unit cost? Authors can set a greater retail price on a better book that is printed on press.
The exception to the rule.
There is an exception and a reason to use self-publishing websites other than Star Print Brokers. If you don’t mind the quality of printing or binding, take the risk! Seriously, a black ink, soft cover book without any important images, might be a good fit. But, once you go to a hardcover binding, increase the quantity, or need pleasing or exact match color, give us a call! Distribution.
If you use an on-demand service, do you actually get your book into brick-and-mortar bookstores, or just have access to those bookstores? If you have your own ISBN and barcode, you already have access to brick-and-mortar bookstores. You are in the database.
