Option 2 — Use DropBox or your favorite upload site.
DropBox and like sites are an option for transferring large files, because some people don’t like using FTPs. DropBox is a great way to transfer book PDFs.
Option 3 — Email PDFs,
If the PDFs are not too large, consider email. You may or may not be able to send large PDFs by email, due to the maximum that your email service, or our service may allow. However, PDFs can be split into smaller sections. An example is if you have a maximum limit set by your email service. Let’s say you want to send a 10 MB PDF per email, but your file is 40 megabytes. You could break it up into four 10 megabyte sections.
FTP books! Authors may use Star Print Brokers FTP to transfer book PDFs.
Use the Star Print Brokers FTP site to transfer book PDFs, however, you can also use DropBox or even email small size PDF files. Self-publishers have choices!
Whichever option you choose …
It’s easy to transfer book PDFs. Each PDF need to have all printer’s marks and use document setup bleed settings. The text is sent in one PDF or folder. To print correctly, the interior page PDF is in single pages and not spreads.
Each of the other components is sent in separate files. Therefore, the other PDFs might be the cover for soft cover books, the cover wrap for hardcover books, dust jacket, endpapers, spot varnish file, or a foil stamp or emboss. It all depends on the binding style and printing custom options that you choose.
It is optional to compress and zip a file before sending. If you want to do this, we suggest WinZip (Windows) or Stuffit (Mac). If you need more information, see our prepress guide.
